These pink ribbons we see in many places suddenly have more significance to our family. My step-mom, Annette, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and they have recently determined that it is the type that is invasive, or that spreads. It has been a very emotional past few days, to say the least.
Annette is one of the strongest people I know. I have so much to learn from her and I'm incredibly blessed to have her in my life. Today is her birthday and she spent it in the hospital in surgery. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to choose to be positive in a situation like this but that is what she has done.
Mom, if you read this I love you very much and I'm so grateful for all of the sacrifices you have made in becoming an "instant mom" and raising 4 children who spent a lot of time grieving the loss of our own mother. You are a great lady, and I will always look up to you as an example of faith and strength. Thank you for that. I'm sorry you've had to spend your birthday in the hospital, but you're right - this begins the rest of your life. I love you.

She has been in our prayers this whole week! Happy Birthday Annette!!
We will keep her and your cute family in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if you need anything at all!
PS - do race for the cure with me, I have done it the last couple of years and it is really great, and of course for a great cause :)
She sounds like such a great example. What a nice post :) We hope everything goes well!
